Wine List
Bordeje NV Macabeo Cava (Campo de Borja) The Campo de Borja wine zone (named after the Borgia family) lies in the Aragón region in north east Spain. It is known for churning out tons of inexpensive, fruity wines made from the Garnacha grape. Since the 1986 induction into the U.N., the Cava D.O. can be used not just in the Penedes wine zone of Catalunia but in Aragón, Navarra, Rioja and even the Basque region.
Balnea ’10 Verdejo (Rueda, Galicia) This is a smooth, friendly style of Verdejo with green fruit aromas and flavors highlighted by apple and melon. Toss in some lime, peach, minerality, nice acidity and a smooth finish.
Benito Santos ’10 Albarino ‘Igrexario de Saiar’ (Rias Baixas) This Albarino is lemon in color with green tints. Intense aromas of peach, white flowers and somewhat ripe tropical fruits emerge in the bouquet. As it enters your mouth, it has a smooth and silky feel, with an intense acidity, which is fresh and pleasant at the same time.
Verasol ’09 MCS’J Monastrell (Jumilla) This wine has an intriguing and fun label. It says Monastrell, which is the grape variety; otherwise known as Mourvedre in France. It is not 100% Monastrell though. The “MCS” stands for Monastrell, Carignane, and Syrah, and the “J” stands for Jumilla.
Bodegas Dehesa El Carrascal ’05 ‘Almarina’ Syrah (Almansa) This Syrah displays a meaty and peppery quality not unlike the famous Crozes-Hermitage reds of the northern Rhone valley. Almansa is a small denominated wine zone in the eastern corner of Castile-La Mancha in central Spain. It borders the Levante regions Jumilla and Yecla, which produce similarly strong red wines.
Bodegas Ondarre ’04 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain) The Ondarre Rioja has been a best seller for quite some time. It tastes amazing. “Black cherry, licorice, smoke, tobacco and tar notes mingle in this firm, lively red. Maturing now, but shows balance and length. Still fresh, this brings you back for another sip. Drink now through 2016.” – 91 points, Wine Spectator, Top 100 of 2010
